human traffic
I meantioned Human Traffic in my weeknotes as part of my film round-up.
I forgot to mention one of the other reasons I like the film is the soundtrack is a total banger. If you like dance music, give the youtube playlist a go here.
I like club music from the 90s/200s, but I also like pop music, hip hop, rnb, etc etc - pretty much anything. This made me think of a scene in the film. They're in a pub, drinking before going out the club to get them all on the same level. Part of their pre-club bonding ritual is bonding over music discussion, and they point out it's not just music they love that brings them together - it's music they hate.
Spice girls, Hanson, Peter Andre all come in for a battering. It made me feel nostalgic for when I was in college, the last time I was (well, consciously) snobby about music. In general, my friend group and I have gone totally the other way, embracing the most embarrassing of pop music (Timber by Pitbull for example). Do kids now still get snobby about music? It feels like everything today is one big mish mash of styles and samples and trending sounds. But I've got to assume there's still some pretentious teens out there somewhere - I hope so!
