Bluebottle's blog

mid-week notes long time no blog

I haven't blogged for awhile - I have several posts in drafts that I just can't finish. It's a combination of being busy and being really lazy when I'm not busy. It's been getting colder here - summer transformed into several weeks of rain at the start of September, with the temperature still mild and warm - but the last few days it's gotten colder and my hands have felt it cycling into work.

(I really liked these illustrations Molly Fairhurst did for the NYT - she did a whole series you can find on her instagram).

I've been reflecting on how I feel way more physically exhausted recently - I've looked at supplements (and I get instagram ads for them too) but maybe it's just being unfit in my mid-thirties.

Work's been a lot busier, which is nice. I don't think I realised at the time how much feeling like I wasn't doing any productive work (our entire company was in a drought of new contracts for about a year) was impacting my mood and self-confidence. I lost all belief in my ability to do my job, because I wasn't being asked to do my job and wasn't exercising those muscles.

I've been reading Jane Eyre for book club, which I've been enjoying a lot - I'm really in the mood for dramatic, gothic romance, and it's fun to read classics and realise why they're so enduringly popular. Jane's inner thoughts are so relatable (even if the romance is not!) I've been cultivating an evening routine where I make myself a sleepy tea, put on a "gothic ambience" youtube video, light a candle and read a chapter before bed. It's a very suitable autumn activity.

I'd like to revamp this blog - the blogs on my rss feed inspire me daily and I'm frustrated with the font, text, etc on the posts here - it's just not quite right!

I've done a lot of things I'd like to write up - a post on a song inspired by an artist, going to a zine fair, going to Oxford, climbing in Dorset. I guess we'll see if I ever get around to it...
