UK supreme court ruling on definition of a woman
Note: I updated the title of this on 24/04/2025 to make the title clearer
I tried to write a longer post about this, but the upshot is I'm ashamed by the supreme court ruling. I'm ashamed a small group of lobbyists backed by a billionaire who's chosen to spend her money on making trans people's lives worse has succeeded and there's no real political opposition to it - not that you'd expect it from the right, but from the left too.
I feel pretty useless - the only thing I try to do at the moment is argue for trans rights with those close to me, to try and prevent them being seduced by this insidious "common sense" argument. People don't like change, but I'm hopeful they can understand and empathise with the harm this causes. I'm ashamed that, like so many other countries, we've allowed trans rights to become a political football.
