watches and going offline

When people talk about going offline, there's a surprising lack of chat about watches. This is what always stops me leaving my phone in the house - if I'm heading somewhere or meeting someone, how do I stay on time? I suppose often the conversation involves replacing the phone with a dumb phone rather than removing the phone altogether. I like the idea of going completely phone-free though. Every so often I spend a day doing little tasks close to home, or visiting an area of the city I live in I know well, just for fun. I think with a camera, watch and my purse, these outings are all feasible opportunities to leave my phone at home.

Finding a watch in a second hand shop has been a vague goal in the back of my mind for awhile, but I'd like to prioritise it this year so I can give some of these phone-free outings a try.

P.S A secondary question is, do I want a cute watch? I definitely have a fancy for these neon pastel Casio ones, but I'd like to buy second hand to be virtuous 😇

P.P.S This also got me thinking about public clocktowers - there are a couple around (mostly on churches) but not enough and of dubious accuracy. I'm definitely curious about the history and current status of public clocks now though.

P.P.P.S Coincidentally, shortly after posting this I came across another blog post about getting a Casio watch.
