Last weeknotes I started writing an intro about low traffic blogs, which I deleted (the trend of posting about that seems to have died down, and it ended up sounding a bit... whiny). I often wonder if people read this blog though.

But occasionally I get nice comments on my guestbook, which I really appreciate - thank you! There's people who run blogs I've commented on, who make the effort to come back and leave me a comment, and people who leave encouraging comments out of the blue. I'm not the most social person, but it's really lovely to have these moments of connection.

Meadow has recently implemented guestbook replies, which is a cool idea I'm looking forward to using :)

Things I've done ✎ᝰ.📓🗒 ˎˊ˗

Visited London to see my boyfriends family, had a meltdown about going on a work bowling social.

(While we were in London, there was someone sleeping on the floor in the Tube carriage we were in. Only one lady acknowledged them - to say "You shouldn't be sleeping there!". I wonder what she thought she was going to achieve? What does she see when she looks at someone clearly in a bad place?)

I went to the photography social I mentioned in my last weeknotes, which was full of very friendly people who are very passionate about sharing photography. A lot of them are older, retired and have some great anecdotes about their previous careers and lives. Before I attend the next one, I need to learn more about film photography terms and techniques to stop embarrassing myself, so I'm looking at books to buy. Here's some options:

Read this if you want to take great photographs - supposed to be jargon free but looks a bit too much like an art book rather than something for beginers.

The 35 mm photographer's handbook - this looks more like it, a normal sized reference book.

(I've continued to play Hollow Knight (finally beat the second Hornet boss fight, yesss) and Mudborne (most recently created a frog called a "Foul Screamer")).

Films (and TV) 🍿🎥✮⋆˙

I watched The Moment, Infernal Affairs (2002) and A Tale Of Springtime (1990).

I liked the Charli xcx film The Moment a lot - it borrowed a lot from British mockumentary shows and films which I found endearing, and it made me laugh. Could have been terrible, was actually fine.

Infernal Affairs is very 2000s, very Hong Kong and very cool. It's the film The Departed is a remake of, and the plot is so good - an undercover police officer and an undercover triad member embedded in the police force take each other on in a game of cat and mouse. Thrilling.

I've been feeling 🫀🩹🥀❤️‍🩹

I think I'm having a mid-life crisis. I've also been feeling very stressed by work - I've been looking at other jobs, but then the work stress makes me want to spend all my downtime just... sitting on the sofa playing video games and watching very dated detective shows from the 90s.

I talked to a friend about running a film night or volunteering somewhere... I have so little confidence in myself talking about this stuff makes me feel defensive. It's like I'm already so on edge any criticism or the thought of any criticism sends me over the top... I hate being in this state!

A lot of people around me have been moving in together, buying houses or having children. I've got a lot of complicated feelings about it and where I am in my own life.

I'm looking forward to

Several films next week, including If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and a triple bill of Freeway and two nightmare themed films from the Hellfire Video Club (a local cult trash film night).

I've been reading 🍵📖

Still reading The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers, and a graphic novel called Anzuelo, by Emma Rios. I have not made a lot of progress because of the aforementioned video games.

See you next week 👋
