I need to come up with a consistent format for these. What is this mess.
🏞️🦉🚬☕︎ RIP David Lynch
David Lynch died, which really feels like it shouldn't have happened as he's one of those cultural figures who seem to have always been there and like they're always going to be there. At the film double bill I went to this weekend, put on by the local silent film club, they screened a silent film he made as a tribute. Premonitions Following An Evil Deed is on youtube, and about a minute long - you should watch it. RIP.
I'm not unusual in saying Twin Peaks meant a lot to me - I loved it for all the usual reasons, the characters, the style, the off-beat quintessential Lynchness of it, but also beyond that watching the deconstruction of that in Fire Walk With Me and The Return really made me think about why I like art and what I like about it and how that lives in relation to what the creator is saying.
🦚🪐✿👣 Life continues
My boyfriend has been ill all of this week - he's got the hacking cough I had before Christmas. So that's not been fun.
Had a lot of fun watching Babygirl (which I thought was an incoherent mess, but entertaining) with my friend, having soon cocktails before and ripping it apart after.
Went to a film double bill hosted by the local silent film club, where we watched Nosferatu with live musical accompaniment and The Lost Boys. Excellent stuff.
Went to a friends birthday drinks afterwards - we (the couple I arrived with and I) were the oldest ones there. My friend whose birthday it was is 27. My other friend (half of the couple I arrived with) started talking about how worried she is about turning 34 this year (which she always does, every year, and I always find it tedious - I'm a year older than her so I'm already 34!) We ended up talking about aging and death, which has been on my mind recently because my Gran is in hospital and receiving palliative care. It's so hard to imagine, although it'll happen to all of us one day.
🐼✍️💭Bear blog thoughts
I don't think I'm good at titling posts - I tend to go lower case 🤷♀️ and try and sum up the contents of the post, but maybe I need to observe what others do and try and spice it up a bit.
All of my other social media is full of Lynch tributes, and bear blog trundles along with much of the same personal life and content about blogging itself. I guess this is because I've curated my feeds (tumblr, bluesky, insta) to people who have the same tastes and the same hobbies as me, whereas here you see everyone and the trending posts are those the whole community likes. Not bad, just different.
I've drafted several posts - a post full of links I favourited while not blogging and a quotes page. I had a resolution a little while ago to post all my drafted posts which I absolutely failed at. I'd still like to. Most of them are responses to over posts on here I lack the confidence to finish or share.
🥔🎮 Vegetating
I continue to play so much stardew valley. I've started getting into the endgame stuff, like Qi's quests and it's so fun and addictive. While doing this I've been watching a bunch of Josh Strife Hayes' Worst MMO series, which are lighweight and entertaining. I found his channel through his deep-dive into Otherworld, I played the most insane MMO on steam... to the end which is a fun watch, and in general he's worth checking out if you enjoy game design and dissecting why bad games are bad.
Until next week ~ 🌟
