Spring is here and everything feels better 🌱☀️ Sorry this is late again!

I'm looking forward to

Films 🍿🎥✮⋆˙

This week I watched Les Rendez-vous d'Anna (1978), I'm still here (2025), The Man Without a Past (2002) and Gloria (2013). I also went to a South West Silents double bill of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) and The Cameraman (1928), and watched Toute une nuit (1982) and Mulholland Drive (2001) on Sunday.

The two Akerman films - Les Rendez-vous and Toute une nuit - I had vastly different experiences with. Liked the first one a lot, which follows Anna, a filmmaker, in her meetings with various men, some women and her mother. Akerman's enigmatic woman are fascinating in how much they refuse to show you about their motivations, leading you to project on to them. Unfortunately the second movie and the short before felt like a boring mess to me. The same technique (slow shots with v. little dialogue) split across so many vignettes and actors left you with nothing to care about or hold onto. Akerman's now on her last strike for me 😅

I enjoyed all of the other films, particularly Man with a Movie Camera and my Mulholland Drive rewatch.

Things I've done ✎ᝰ.📓🗒 ˎˊ˗

I've been reading 🍵📖

Passing by Nella Larson. Incredible book, about two childhood friends from Chicago, one who has passed as white and married a white man, and the other who has stayed within the black community, married to a black man. The writing about relationships is so insightful and the personal stakes of all the interactions make the novel very tense and gripping.

All of the list of Personal things on marble thoughts's February round up.

Sylvia's post on self-hosting OpenBSD - a good reminder to document my own self-hosting plans.
