weeknotes 25

I remain very tired - what's new? I've started looking up youtube videos like ellbat's I tested a scientifically perfect 28 day routine for women because I don't think I can accept feeling knackered all the time - maybe what she says about women needing more sleep is right, or maybe I need to relax a bit.

I'm looking forward to

Films 🍿🎥✮⋆˙

This week I watched No Other Land (2024), Berlin Symphony of a Great City (1927), Cabaret (1972), and Micky 17 (2025).

No Other Land is available for free on Channel 4OD at the moment, so if you're in the UK you should watch it - it's a documentary showing destruction of a Palestinian community in the occupied West Bank which had been resisting forced displacement following the declaration of an Israeli "firing zone" on their land. The bravery required to get the footage, and the battle get try and get eyes people to watch it, is worth witnessing.

I liked Cabaret a lot more than the boys in my group, and I think it's because I was totally charmed by Liza Minelli as Sally Bowles. They didn't think it had much to say, but the depiction of hedonism in the face of Nazism (notably largely only by the non-Jewish characters in the film) and the limits of they as resistance, is very relevant.

I had a lot of fun with Micky 17 - more than I expected! My expectations were lowered, and I had more fun. It's a blockbuster. I do feel like we're pretty much in a post-satire world now though, so I didn't really appreciate the Trump impression. By the end, I couldn't resist the characters - even if they all seemed larger than life, it had heart.

I've been feeling 🫀🩹🥀❤️‍🩹

Things I've done ✎ᝰ.📓🗒 ˎˊ˗

I've been reading 🍵📖

Still reading the The Hunter by Richard Stark; as I said last week, this is for book club and otherwise I might have dnfed it - it's only got more misogynistic and gross. I try and find something to like in everything, and he's a competent writer, but there's not a single female character in this who hasn't been gratuitously abused.

Really love this tallies page and would like to do something similar: stream of me - tallies.

This sketchbook! and talking about drawing as a meditative practice - winnie lim - chiang mai’s sketchbook.
