weeknotes 27

This is a late weeknotes addition for last week - I stopped doing these for awhile, but had a desire to start them up again.

I'm looking forward to

Films 🍿🎥✮⋆˙

All of the films I saw this week:

The lives of others (2021)

This is undeniably a good film, but the more I thought about it the less I liked it. I think it's the personal drama which kind of overshadows a real political tragedy for me? That the main character is kind of the one good Stasi agent, and his change of heart didn't really make sense to me?

The Triplets of Belleville (2003)

What a trip! A crazy French animation with a real grotesque style (complimentary). I wasn't totally into this but watching the making of feature really made me appreciate how much work goes into these things (one of the nice things about watching stuff on DVD).

The Discipline of D.E. (2006)

Short film I watched on youtube here - I enjoyed this, it made me think about how to adapt other short pieces of writing into films. It also reminded me of my boyfriend, who seems to always try and streamline any process and hates slow walkers.

Just Another Girl on the I.R.T. (1992)

A low budget, rough round the edges film with a lot of charm. The childbirth scene is unexpectedly intense!

Black Rain (1989)

I really hated this macho 80s racist bullshit. The visuals are great and there's some beautiful shots here, but I couldn't get over how dumb it was.

I've been feeling 🫀🩹🥀❤️‍🩹

Sad, but not too sad. I've actually subscribed to Unstuck (CBT journal) and have been finding it helpful. Regrettably it uses AI and I've been finding the AI insights helpful too.

I have stopped taking sertraline for now, and I've definitely noticed my tolerance for stress going down - it's something I'm trying to keep an eye on.

Things I've done ✎ᝰ.📓🗒 ˎˊ˗

Climbing on the weekend. Wrote a day off day log about what I did on my day off.

I've been reading 🍵📖

The Night Manager by John LeCarre - really, no one does it like he does. Not just the spy intrigue but the way he writes about people and human nature and inner thoughts.

monthly collage, I like this idea a lot. I've been toying with the idea of creating more magazine style journal spreads.

another cute website I really love an image map on a website - this one is really nicely designed. I enjoyed the blog post about "A Psalm for the Wild-Built" by Becky Chambers too.
