weeknotes 29
Monday weeknotes again - I also completely forgot about Blaugust this year but I'm keen to do it - when I did it last week (see my tag) it was very satisfying to see the run of posts. I've been thinking about how I'd take part this year - probably shorter posts, more like brief thoughts - I think it would be good practice to try and express myself more succinctly. I'm a rambler!
Anyway, on to last week:
Things I've done ✎ᝰ.📓🗒 ˎˊ˗
Walked around Langland Bay and Mumbles and didn't take any pictures, but the weather was nice and it looked beautiful.
I made a birthday card for my brother, and did some indoor bouldering with him.
Films 🍿🎥✮⋆˙
Amelie, Amadeus and Human Traffic. It was great to rewatch Amelie - I can see why some people find it too quirky and saccharine, but I was in the right mood for it and I find the underlying story, about a women who's too afraid to embrace life, very moving.
Amadeus is just a great, solidly made film, funny and tragic with great performances. Salieri is genuinely chilling towards to end, a great and pathetic villain.
As for Human Traffic, no one can argue it's a masterpiece but I have a soft spot for it because it's so British, and it feels very genuine - I can't talk about how it captures the 90s clubbing scene as I was a toddler in the 90s, but I does really capture something about nights out a friendship. A surprisingly nuanced look at male insecurity and relationships too, and surprisingly the politics haven't aged that badly at all (compared to some other 90s films).
I've been feeling 🫀🩹🥀❤️🩹
I've been feeling more content this week, but I'm still anxious because of longer term worries about my relationship, house hunting, and my job.
I've been pretty busy, and it's made me thing of a tik tok I saw ages ago - a girl who applied the "a tired dog is happy dog" philosophy to herself. In my experience, this does work - for a while - but not if you're avoiding your responsibilities by filling your time with hobbies.
I'm looking forward to
I'm going to Newcastle for another wedding at the end of this week - I'm looking forward to visiting the city again.
I've been reading 🍵📖
Still reading The Night Manager by John LeCarre.
