Weeknotes 8
These are getting later and later - I've been too busy these weekends. I feel tired and wiped out. Not sure if I'm ill or if it's just getting to winter and I'm getting old. My mental health has been better I think, so that's positive. Anyway, here's what I've been up to this week.
- Monday - I write in my diary
Urgh feel so busy & stressed trying to cram it all in, hate it.
Which is pretty much how I feel. I remember some internet advice I've internalised "A tired dog is a happy dog" and "trying as many new experiences as possible" is a way to combat the feeling that life is going by too fast - but I think you need time to reflect too. I'm struggling to find that balance.
- I started out last week by going to a theatre show with 2 girl friends. I'm always surprised (maybe unfairly) by how funny live comedy can be. We went to see a play called Chickpeas by Hagseed Productions.
Stacy and Adrienne have been cast in ‘The Forbidden Fruit’, a Regency-era lesbian melodrama, a catastrophe of clichés and male fantasies of hot lesbians ripping off each others’ corsets. They’re pretty sure it’s a crime against gay people. But they need the work.
It was absolutely hilarious - often due to the actress's expressions and some period gags about "quivering Fanny" - but also because of the off-stage blossoming romance between the two protagonists. I'd always recommend seeking out small, local shows - you might find a hidden gem. Was great to catch up with my friends, too.
My Wednesday day off was pretty chill - I stayed in and did some house chores, went to pilates, later met my boyfriend in the pub to do the crossword then we went home and watched The Omen. I intended to make some progress on my two goals - financial responsibility (reviewing my accounts and where I'm investing my money, pension etc) and looking for a house to buy, but I again failed to do this because it's all too hard and scary.
I gave away two things on the neighbourhood group chat this week in an effort to declutter - my robo-vacuum and a whiteboard, both gratefully received which made me feel good. I've also sold some comics on Vinted for the first time. Getting involved in the circular economy - no buy, re-use, and repair, is something I'm very keen on and getting more involved in neighbourhood sharing groups is part of this.
Did some climbing this week - badly. I feel very weak and out of practice and it's annoying. Had a pizza and a pint afterwards as usual - I'm starting to merge my climbing groups which is nice! I don't know how to increase my strength and stamina though - other than by going more often, but I already feel like I'm doing too much.
Did a lot of work on my personal site helenffion.cafe creating the landing page and adding the spooktober calendar. Lots of fun, although I've realised no one really cares about it as much as me 😅
I also went to a wedding on Saturday - that's one reason I know my mental health has been better, it didn't reduce me to a crying wreck to spend the whole day stressing out about my appearnce and hanging out with people I don't know very well while wondering if my boyfriend likes me. I actually had a pretty good time, and danced a Cèilidh for the first time!
Anyway, see you next week, hopefully on Sunday this time ☺
